Karalena enjoys all aspects of writing contemporary romance—well, if she was being completely honest, editing can occasionally drive her to drink a glass of wine or two. But bringing imaginary characters to life who fall in love? What’s not to like. Karalena enjoys infusing a little bit of humor into her quirky characters.
All That He Is book excerpt:
I turn my head and my eyes widen because Mr. Tall, Dark and Drool-Worthy is standing in the doorway. His eyes scan the room, pausing at our table for a moment. I sit up a little straighter before his gaze continues on to a bald man who is sitting a few tables away from us.
”Yes please,” Alexis says.
We both watch him make his way across the room. When he reaches the bald man’s table, he sits down. He is facing me, and I’m feeling pretty happy about this. My view just got better.
”You lucky bitch, Margaret. You get to ogle the only decent man in here.”
I feel like I’m having a hot flush, so I wave my hand in front of my face.
"It's seriously hot in here."
I'm thirty-two. Could this possibly be early perimenopause? Or is he really that hot? I look at him, and yes, he really is. Alexis smacks my hand down.
All That He Is, started out as a short story over ten years ago in a writing class. Everyone liked it, so this encouraged her to take it further. But, it went into hiding when she got discouraged. Recently, she decided to take it off the dusty shelf and bring it back to life. With the help of her editor and a published author, she brought the story on track. It started out slow but picked up momentum, and now, here it is, her first novel!
The first chapter is the original short story. It has changed since its conception—or as the author likes to say--she crunched out the older parts that didn’t work. With a playwriting history, she brings her characters to life with dialogue and action.
There has been encouragement from family, friends, and other writers on this voyage to get this novel here in front of you. And for this, she is very grateful for because writing a book is not always the easiest endeavour. Following your dreams definitely has curves, bumps and full stops. But when she reached her final destination—her first novel—it made it all worth the moments she thought it would never happen.
Special little note that could be considered interesting: all of her heroine's names start with the letter, 'M'.
